Has anyone ever kept a longnosed hawkfish? I bought one last week and I have not seen it eat a thing. I have offered it squid, krill, prawns, silversides, and formula A & B (slury cubes). I also coat the food with ZOE and Garlic Extreme. The hawkfish does dive and attack the sand bed comming up with a mouth full of sand. Does it need live prey inorder to stimulate a feeding response? How about live brine shrimp?

I've found that longnose hawkfish are voracious feeders on just about anything you offer them. The ones here at the warehouse will come to the tops of the tanks wanting to be fed. We feed them krill, squid, "formula 1", and flake food.

Mr. Fish,

I have had a Longnose Hawk for about 6 months now and he has never not eaten. I feed frozed brine and mysis shrimp. He, or she, has never touched solid foods (squid, krill etc). Mine will pick food from the sand so the fact that you see yours doing the same is a positve sign.

Hawks, especially longnose, are rather sensitive. Check your water parameters, temp, etc. Also, what kind of tank mates do you have? re they aggressive? Do you have a lot of hiding places?

Good luck,

Eddi

It sounds like it may not have made the transition from natural prey to substitute foods. Live brine and live mysis usually make the transition much easier.
