I have a few frags that I would like to attach to some of my larger pieces of LR. I really can't remove the Lr without a major project. I want to attach the frag to the Lr underwater instead of taking out the Lr and gluing it. Will plummers putty work?
Thanks, Jim.

I have no idea what plumbers putty is. But epoxy will work. Typically a marine epoxy which is usually in two parts a white and green part. It's not a glue, it's not very sticky. Wedge it into a spot on the rock with nocks and spaces that the epoxy can grab onto and be secured once cured. Then stick the frag into the epoxy. Keep an eye on the skimmer some types of epoxy makes them go nuts.

Plummers putty and epoxy are the same. The important thing is that they do not contain toxins like copper or other metals.

You can also use superglue gel. It is not as buff as marine epoxy, but it does do a nice, subtle job.
Dab the end of the frag to be glued on a towel and apply a big drop or two of superglue gel, submurge the frag for a couple of seconds so the glue films over then press the frag into place squshing the glue between the frag and the rock and hold for about 30 seconds. Easy peasy.

Over here in britain we tend to use MILLIPUT its a 2 part epoxy putty which is totally reef safe, it's mostly used by modeller's and hobbyists alike.

Epoxy all the way. You want to use a rough area and try to wrap the epoxy around the rock holding the frag.

I like to use superglue instead of epoxy. The big white ugly epoxy sticks out like a sore thumb...

My problem is that after a couple of months the superglue looses its stick and the frags often fall. Epoxy becomes covered in coraline in time.

I usually use superglue to attach the frag to a small rock. Usually the frag encrusts over the superglue so it stays put. Once I find a good location for the frag (one where lighting and flow is to the frag's liking) I use the epoxy. I often have to move the frag around to find a good spot. That is why I first superglue and then epoxy.

I just used the aquarium epoxy a couple days ago. Its been over 48 hours, and its still making my skimmer shoot a billion bubbles out even with the flow 95% closed.... ERG!!!!

Just get a jar of Bangbangs Superdooper Fragstickers when they become available in my Marine World Superstores. Unfortunately you have to travel to Legton in the Galaxie of Boobs to get them. I hope open a store here on this planet as soon as this crappy economy improves. Hey ok.ok .I will take a trip to legton tonight in my Starseeker and pic up some of those Fragstickers for ya..Ok?
