brown slime algae cures

Heres the deal. I have had an fo running for one year. Levels stay okay, ammonia between 0 and .25. I run a ugf only. I have a brown algae problem like you would not believe. I have pulled every rock at one time and scrubed them and then changed 20g of water. you name it i have tried it. Did i nopt cycle my tank right, or something. I want this crap to go away. I have no problem keeping fish, well except butterfly fish.

what kind of water are you using for the change? us di/ro water only if its tap water thats where the slime is coming from.

You've got to increase your waste removal..... might want to get a Hang on skimmer... (aqua c remora, or bak-pak) and do some big water changes.... use RO/DI or distlilled water folr top off. keep your Alk high....

Dinos are hard to get rid of..... Liquid had a good post on them..... i will try and dig it up.....

Julian sprungs Algae book is a good little piece of reference. it gives some suggestions on algae controls. it is not the must have of all books. but a good place to start.....

I use DI water to top off and for changes. I have been thinking about the skimmer alot latley. I will try a few more big changes and see where that gets me. The change i described did slow the growth a bit. now how much is a skimmer going to set me back

Silicate(s) is the culprit. The only way to "cure" them is by RO. Snails will mop up most of it off the glass, bu as long as you keep introducing it with partially filtered water, your problem will persist, indefinately.
