I came home and looked at my protein skimmer and the collection cup was all filled with water, and it wasnt like that a few hours ago. What would cause this?

stress coat isn't compatable with skimmers IMO. Seachems prime will not effect skimming one bit. You say you did the water change not so recently, so, probably not that, unless you cleaned skimmer @ same time as water change, then, it would take longer for skimmer to overact. Some times back pressure on the return (submerged w/o air gap), or clogged air intake will cause this. What kind of skimmer (they all have their own lil problems) are you using? Some skimmers kick in long after you adjusted it, ETSS recommends 24 hour between adjustments, allowing time to moniter last one.

all of the 'slime coat replacers' make skimmers go crazy  they also break down into other things, eventually-don't use 'em(rodi water only).

you could try the 'tap water purifier' by aquarium pharmaceuticals, but you should save up for an rodi unit, too. (best thing to do)

at the very least-run a carbon filter on the water in a separate holding tank for a few days-just test the carbon to make sure it doesn't contain phosphates before you use it.

buying your water is also an option-many lfs's sell rodi water-you just need to supply the containers

To remove the chlorine in your tap, let your tap water age for a few days with a powerhead running constantly, that should drive chlorine out of the water.

ok, sounds good. Is there any way to get rid of the stress coat in my water now? or just over time and water changes this will do. I would prefer to get rid of it now, or as soon as possible as it is clouding my tank with bubbles. thanks
