Jason, what type of Xenia do you have?
I could plan a trip up there this weekend, if
you are available.

David

Have a lot of Bali, Red Sea, and a few other kinds I'm not sure what they are. I could just give you a piece of rock with the Xenia. I'm sure I can find some smaller pieces if you don't want huge pieces of LR. Or I could just cut you some off with a razor or scissors.

This weekend would be great. I plan on taking down the tank on Saturday to prepare for moving in my new 190g on Sunday.

When I wanted to ditch mine, I cut it with a razor blade and pulled the rest of it off by hand.

The LR from my tank (which most of the Xenia is attached to) will be sitting in trash cans (circulated and heated) for at least 2 weeks while I fill my new tank and get all the sand in, water mixed with salt, electrical wired, etc. So I am hoping that most of it will die off while in the trash can.

that should be lotsa fun, moving a 190.

did anyone read about the lady who was killed in old town (SD)? big ol' eucalyptus fell on her! talk about ruining someone's day. i remember when i was at school one of the big old trees fell right in front of me. it was, to say the least, a TRIP.

night before last wasn't so bad, but last night it was WHIPPIN'! i was getting really worried cuz we have a big old chinese elm, and if it came down the wind was pushing it pretty much on top of me. when the power went out the 13yo got scared (jeez, a kid who's almost 6' tall still gets scared and needs his mom, how sweet) and wanted to sleep in my room, but i told him we both needed to stay outta there for the night. needless to say, everyone overslept.

one thing that can be great help is to keep simple glass covers for your tank. When the power goes out heat can be a problem.. cover the tank and run air stones on battery!

that is what I do

Touch wood we haven't lost power here for any great length of time. But my contingency plan was to run out to my local Home Depot (open 24 hours) and rent a generator for how ever long I needed it. Then I got to thinking that if the power is out, the store would probably be closed as well! Yikes.

Off to buy a generator. No procrastination over this one. Got to be worth it considering the piles of dough and time I've invested in my livestock. IME ups's only work for an hour or so on my computer until the batteries run low. Gotta be worse if they power a pump, etc.

I have started to use a Live well pump like they use on fishing boats you can pick them up at a marine store and they are not expensive they turn about 350 gallons an hour and run off a 12 volt battery. I also use my deep cycle trolling motor battery and have run it for 2 days striaght this way.We recently lost power for a week due to ice storms. I have a small generator that I used to heat my tank ubt I always have this as a Back-up. It might be a good idea in the future if you have power outages.
