I got home from work today and noticed that my clams mantle has retracted and looks pinched on the right side. It's really weird that I am having this problem now because I haven't added anything to this tank for at least 3 months. On top of that it is the only clam in this tank. I know that you had a thread on treating this disease, but I can't seem to find it using the rod search. Can you please send me the link or repost the treatment? PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks.

Sorry that the pics aren't that great. My digi cam is worthless.

I noticed something similar on my recently-acquired maxima yesterday. Turns out, when I was watching it later, this white bristleworm was poking out of a hole in the neighboring rock & stinging its mantle. I quickly epoxy-puttied the surrounding area.

Clam mantle retraction is most often due to irritations because of various causes. I would first look for parasitic snails, coral stings, trauma, fish bites chunk out of the mantel ect….
If you have persistent retraction of the mantle that is not improve over several days, and you cannot find any cause for the irritations, then you can consider other causes include the 'pinched mantle' infection.
Here two links to the threads mostly discussed about this problem:

I hope you find that there is no problem with your clam

I checked the clam over imediately when I notice the problem and couldn't find any probllem. The clam is still responsive but I really am worried about it. Like I said earlier, the mantle is pinched more than in the pictures. Thanks for posting the links.

I had a Kole tang that tormented my clams and until I really watched, I never knew the reason for the retraction. Just a thought.

Minh, Does freshwater dip help rid parasitic snail and worms?
I only use the fresh water dip for the specific 'pinched mantles' problem. I don't think it will do anything for the parasitic snails problem. I am not aware of any parasitic worms problem of clams

Well I think I figured out what was wrong with my crocea. I just saw my 1.5" ocelaris clown bite the cr@p out of it.
I should have known since he attacks my hand relentlesly every time that I put it into the tank. He has been banished to the sump for the time being. I still am not sure what his fate will be though. Either back to the store that he came from or moray eel fodder. What do you think?
