Hi.

On ym 90g AGA RR i have a durso that is plumbed to drain hoe hich is draped to my sump...

The key word was draped... I want to make room for a Fuge... So... while i am at it i thought i might re-plumb the drain.

I am getting a little gurgle noise in the drain hose due to its length and a few bends.

Can I

1. increase the drain hose size from 1" to 1 1.4 or 1 1/2?
2. Will this increase the noise in the drain line? I plan un using flex PVC... I have a micron bag that it will feed into. I will use a union fitting to allow servicing...
3. will this increase the flow rate of the overflow by going from 1" to ?? whatever size is best?

I really don't think i will have a problem upsizing... but wanted a second brain to go at it....

thanks

you can see the plumbing on my site below

Well from what I've seen, you can always increase the size of the hose
drain, but you still run into only so much water fits through the bulkhead
at any a piont in time.
As for sound, that I'm unsure of, I use a corigated 1-1/4" hose off my 1"
bulkhead and I don't hear it at all.
But my tank has a side drilled hole rather than the standard RR from AGA.

My thoughts exactly.

The way I have thehose draped I am sure I can make it smooher ride to the sump. My tank is 4' long and i needed a 3.5' hose. but of course you have to buy a 4' er...I think 1 1/4 will work just fine..... or should i just go 1 1/2...

I have a trickle filter that the hose plugs into to side of.
On the inside, a 90 deg elbow diverts the water down.
I drilled a hole on top of the elbow for air relief (before I heard of durso)
Before that I got a gurgle sound.
FWIW, my hose has a couple corkscrews in it for lenght adjustment,
but in general goes down.

I've seen rigid pipe used and the problem is after a couple years, it starts to get clogged. Then it's a PITA to clean out.

I would go with a flex hose.
The main thing is to have a air vent before the water in the sump.

31-2c, rigid pvc doesn't get anymore clogged than flex, it's just harder to change out and clean.
