I just received my Iwasaki 250w 6500 MH bulb from Marine Depot... in the paperwork it says:

"This lamp should be operated with the mercury ballasts of reactor or lag type. Never operate with lamp regulator(CW) of autoregulator (CWA) type."

Unfortunately, the ballast setup being shipped to me right now is of the CWA type.. :(

Being a Metal Halide noob, I didnt even realize that there were such distinctions..

Sigh.. Exactly WHAT ballast do I need to run this bulb? I havent seen any described as "reactor or lag type"!

Plz help.

The 6500 is recommended to be run on a MV ballast, but it will run on a MH ballast. Running it w/ a MH ballast will cause it to not be quite as bright and more yellow.

These EYE ballasts were designed for the purpose of cross MH/MV compatibility, so it's a bit of a mystery why they have that disclaimer for these bulbs. Just ignore it. It runs perfectly fine, albeit a little less bright and a bit more yellow as texasreefer mentioned (still more PAR then, say, a 10,000K Ushio if that's why you picked the Iwasakis).

And you have the flexibility to switch to another bulb if you like. I run EYE250 bulbs on a MH ballast and love them. After 2 years, no comparable difference, to the eye, with a new bulb.
