today i made an impulse buy, i know i shouldent but they were too cool to pass up. they called them tiger shrimp, they look just like a shrimp same body as a pistol but with out the pistol snapper claw. they are about 1 1/2" long and love to burrow in the sand, i was wondering what they really are and how to best for them.

Heh .... chances are, it's just a tiger pistol shrimp (Alpheus bellulus) :) They lose their trademark claws a lot of times, and will regrow them in several molts.

the claws are grown in they look like regular lobster claws and not pistols one is larger and flatter than the other. their pushing the sand around with them like miniture bulldozers.

Ah .... so the claws are sharp and tapered unlike the shovel-shaped regular pistols? Interesting. Any way to snap a pic of it?

the coloring looks just like the pic chris is bored except the claws are diff one is slightly larger and flat, the other is tapered and pointed kinda like a arrow crabs claws, they have made a huge home under my halimidia, they seem too like living in pairs as mine are inseperable. if it is a pistol i wont be disapointed im just wondering how to best care for them. i wish icould get a pic the camera is in the shop for a month to get fixed

on the pairs, does one have a big left, and the other a big right? If so they are pistols, and that's how you sex them.

im not sure what im gonna feed him yet, i treid some mysis just to tempt him last night but he's too new to feed yet, still exploring the tank. im not gonna worry about it unless he dosent eat for a wek, but im sure he will. heck i've seen him eat plenty of times in the lfs so i know as soon as he feels comfortable he will. mabe i'll try squid or clam meat or mabe some jumbo prawns but im gonna wait for a few days before i tempt him. as for catching him it was luck. andrew the manager just rearanged the rock in the tank because he had to catch that black ribbon eel they had in there. so i stroll in an hour or so after he had done that and the snow flake was exploring the new rock formation up in the front of the tank. so i grabbd a net and spoked him to go behind the rack they have of corals on the left side of the 400gal reef tank. once there i knew i had him. i got 2 nets put one on one end and chased him with the other right into the net. lol it just seemed way to easy. you should have seen the look on andrews face he's ben trying to catch him for six months and i walk in there and do it in 5 min's. oh well he looks quite happy in my tank and nobody disapered last night so i hope it goes well.
