I am having problem in starting siphon in my new Amiracle mudd filter. It has a overflow box and the instruction says put a tube in the U Tube and suck the air out. I tried this but before all the air comes out the water start coming from the small tube in the mouth.
Is there any easy way to start the siphon.

use a small rio powerhead with a venturi attachment and feed the tube in the U tube...

or become accustomed to the tast of salt water

I drilled a small hole in the top of the u-tube. Then used silicon to attach a piece of tubing to the top of the u-tube. I then put a gate valve on the end of the small tubing. Then I was able to suck all the air out of the u-tube without getting water in my mouth.

Well thanks for all the replys. I got it working.
What I did was fill the U tube with water and wrap each end with
plastic wrap. Put the u tube back in the 2 chambers and pull the wrap it works just great. I did 3-4 times and it works like a champ every time.

One thing I like bad about the overflow box are the plastic screws they come with to adjust the height of the chamber inside the aquarium. I already broke one.
Do any one know where to find these kinds of screws.

So far my Amiracle Mudd filter working fine I hope i dont overflow the tank or the sump. I am using Mag 5 inside the sump area.
connected to the PVC pipe with a Ball valve to adjust the water flow. I am ordering a check valve from savko soon to make sure
not to overflood the sump in case pump shuts off.
My inlet to the tank is about 1 1/2" inside the water.

I am also planning to run prizim skimmer inside the outer chamber of the sump. but the problem is the water level is below the skimmer inlet tube. Any one knows where to find the extension for the inlet tube.

Thanks to all.

similar to my method, have a couple rubber laundry sink plugs, turn the u-tube upside down in the tank to fill the tube, cap each end with the sink plugs (fit perfect),turn it into the overflow box, uncap and away it goes, takes me a few seconds and dont have to put my mouth on anything...lol.....Riot....

Lowes carries the plastic screws, but not the thumbwheel style, only the slotted kind

A good method to insure that you don't overflow your sump is too run your sump at the bare minimum level and then shut down your pump, if your sump is of propersize, the backflow should stop well before the sump overflows. Note the level in the sump, measure the remaining space in the sump,(I subtracted 1/4" to allow room for error), now restart the system and fill the sump to the desired height, ie. if the total sump height is 18" and the low sump level is 2"and you measured 6" of space after shutting down, then your sump increased 10", so you must leave 10"+(1/4"for error). if you have a power failure it is impossible to over flow. These figures are off the top of my head and are not to be taken as accurate, but in this example your low sump level would be 2" and your high,11&3/4" Mark this on the side with masking tape for easy reference :) :)
