I'm gonna take the class too, I need to get a router setup though, anybody have any sugestions?

The ideal setup for me, portable table saw, with the mount setup for a router too, so all I have to do is buy a plunge router and I'm set. The only ones I've seen like this are cheap ones on ebay though

Brian has recommended two affordable router tables for use during his course:

http://www.reefs.org/maco/modules.php?o ... ublic.html

"Note: A small router and router table is currently available for low cost at both Lowe’s and Home Depot, at the following links. Make your holiday requests now. These are both adequate for the project completed in this course. The cost for either of these items is approximately $100.
a) www.lowes.com item #182361
b) www.homedepot.com sku #402114

We deeply advise you to follow the safety procedures that are stated in your powertools' instruction manuals. We will not be responsible for any injuries that may arise from using any tool.

Those attendees who do not own or feel comfortable with powertools will have the option of purchasing fully-prepared materials at a minimal cost, able to be assembled for final use. "

As the person teaching the acrylic fabrication course, I felt I should chime in here. For this course, we'll be working on a calcium reactor. If you've got some tools, or access to them, you'll be able to build a high-quality reactor for less than, or about, the same amount you can buy one of the premade ones, in addition to learning skills for making just about anything out of acrylic, using the same techniques used by professional facilities. In addition, you'll learn some of the suppliers for purchasing materials, materials properties, safety, and many other topics.

I'll be providing templates for people who can do the work themselves, so that those with a router table will be able to purchase cut-to-size acrylic locally and construct all the parts, including keyholed flanges.

Proper gluing techniques, and proper glues, will also be taught. Those taking the course will also be able to make high-quality acrylic aquariums when completed with the course, and be able to determine proper wall thicknesses required for the desired aquarium size.

Hope this makes some people interested, and feel free to ask more questions about the course, if you need to.

Hi Brian
Is the plunge router a must? I have a regular router and a drill press.
Thanks,
Steve

A regular router is perfectly fine. In fact, I usually wish I had a normal router, instead of my plunge, especially with certain projects. Is it mounted in a table yet? If not, you will want to look into doing that. You can either buy a cheapo premade one, or make one yourself (out of acrylic, no less ;-) )

where can you get MTC pro-cal reactors?

I want to check their prices.

I think I might take the MACO class too. Looks very informative.
