I am a beginning reef keeper and I recently purchased a Haitian Anemone. Two days ago it appeared very healthy, when all of a sudden it fell off it's rock and it appears, turned itself inside out. What does this mean? Is it dead? Please help.

Well, no one will be able to tell anything without more information. How old is your tank? What size? What lighting? What are the water parameters (Ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and temperature)? What are the other inhabitants? What filtration? What maintenance schedule (type and frequency of water changes)?

Give everyone more info, and maybe someone can help.

In addition to the info, if the anemone is rotting/flaking, siphon it out using a big diameter vinyl hose. Scooping it out will leave water cloudy. You will have to remove it as soon as you determined it's deteriorating rapidly. Otherwise, you will pollute the whole tank.

ps. teevee is right.......

tiffybug, is it possible to post a picture? How old is your tank etc? Mine moved all over the place and looked terrible on and off at first. Even got stuck in a filter intake. When I finaly put the foot inside a hole in a nice piece of live rock and made sure it got plenty of light, it has stayed put now for over a year and a half.

I gave up on the anemone. But, I can always use more information. My tank is 5 months old, and I have had the anemone for about 2 months. My tank is 25 gallon with actinic and 20k bulbs in an eclipse hood. I have a couple blue legged hermit crabs, some turbo snails, and a bristle star, 2 damsels and a couple fan worms, and sponges that popped up out of my live rock. I have 35 pounds of carribean and figi live rock. I do 25% monthly water changes. Let me know if you need more info.

Do you typically keeps a log of your water parameters? We are looking for data on salinity, hardness, ph, nitrite, nitrate, and temp. BTW, have you ever feed your anemone?

I am at work right now, so I do not have that info handy. I do know that last time I checked (1 week ago) my pH, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels were fine. Also, I do feed my anemone. As a matter of fact, he ate some food that night. I feed frozen cubes of a variety of krill, shrimp, algae, etc.
