Don't know why some places say that they are not reef safe, maybe because of the venomous dorsal spines? but most people on the boards say they are reef safe.
I have one and he is fine! is a very good eater and leaves everything he is not supposed to touch alone.
but that is just mine
hope that helps,
Abbey
My foxface was well fed, and never harmed a thing in the reef. However, it grew too large for a 72g in less than a year, and was moved to a larger tank 155g where it seemed to be stressed by the tangs. It was adopted to a local reefer with a larger reef and less tangs and now seems to be very happy !
Mine is in a 29g....yep a .29...................and is my favorite fish..I think I will always have a Fox. He is very responsive to me and begs for food.he eats out of my hand and shows no agression. I have to get a bigger tank just for my yellow buddy. I really wanted a Trigger but this fish is just responsive to me as many triggers I have seen.
I have my foxface in a 72bow reef and he never touches any of my coral. However he is getting BIG. I will be going to a 180 soon because of the fox and a trigger I have so I would say they are perfectly reef safe as long as you watch those spines
There is no reason for a foxface to be considered non-reef safe. All of the Siganus family of fishes are excellent algae eaters. I will emphasize what was mentioned above though, they need space. They grow like weeds (the rabbitfishes even moreso).
They are perfectly reef safe.As said they have venomous spines, but mine has never shown any aggression towards anything. They will eat what ever macro algea you have. And they do have a great personality, sorta like a puppy dog.
