Question on LTA care

I've been reefing for a while, but this is my first anemone. It doesn't seem responsive to food at all- I've let mysid shrimp and various other seafood items contact its tentacles and it produces no feeding response whatsoever. Is this unusual?

The LFS I got it from said "I should have called you, we've been holding him for you for a couple of weeks" During that time it was jammed into a small tank in direct contact with a half dozen other anemone species.
Is it possible that its just...tired?

I'm going to try some fish next, as I know these guys are supposed to prefer it.

Try a variety of food. Shrimps, squid, fish ect.. and see what it take. I would try one type of food per day until you get it to feed. Just try a small aount first (.5 cc or so) until it feed regualrly, than you can increase the amount.
It may be well stressed because of the various other anemonies in the LFS's tank. It it is attached and out in the light, you have some time to try to get it to eat.

Thanks Minh- yep its well attached and the tentacles are reaching into the light. I think its probably stressed as you said- tomorrow I will try a bit of fish.

Whenever in doubt go with Silversides,,,
Cut one in half and make sure it touches the LTA so it will sense that it's fish,,,
Works all the time...

ok, before you start shoving food down its throat...try laying off for a while, you could do more damage by poluting your tank with uneaten food. I haven't fed mine for more than a year and a half now, although it will take food, he doesn't seem to need or want much of it. My tomatoe clown also doesn't let it eat much but even before she was took to the anemone, he didn't eat much. When I first bought the anemone 7-8 years ago, It was under only NO Flours and I did feed it every now and again, but It still didn't "require" feeding. I now use one 400w 65k Iwasaki and like said he doesn't require feeding any longer, though I'm sure he gets some food from the clown in some way!

Well, I hope you're right... After staying in the same place for two weeks it pulled up stakes and is now deep in the rockwork. If I peer at just the right angle through a couple of holes in the rock I can manage to see a tentacle....
