Quick question about live rock, I have a 55 with about 30 lbs of LR that i have purchased locally, it varies between 6-8 bucks/lb depending on what i get and where. Is ordering online ok and/or cheaper? Does anyone have a recomended place to get it from? I'd like to add another 30-40 lbs to finish out the tank and I can't decide what i should do, TIA

I paid a good amount more for my rock, 6-8 seems like a nice price. When shipping live rock the freight charges get pretty expensive. I'd stick to your dealer - btw read my disclaimer.

liveaquaria.com has a good deal on live rock. 99.99 for a 45# box and 1.19 per pound shipping. so for around $150 you get 45lbs of rock.

I have purchased several hundred pounds, and by far the best that I have received has been from Premium Aquatics. I am sure there are other great vendors out there as well. Price range is great $4 a pound for Fiji premium cured, sent to your local airport for quick delivery and minimal exposure to elements. About $40 shipping. As a matter of fact, I have 60lbs of Fiji coming in tomorrow morning on southwest airlines from Premium Aquatics. I can let you know how it looks tomorrow night if you wish. :D

Let me know how it goes, I believe that some of my LR is fiji and the other might be marshal, here check out my pics to see www.htmlgonebad.com/shane , anyway im not sure what to do because aren't you supposed to cure it before you add it if you ship it? I don't have anywhere to cure 40 lbs of liverock so i may just have to buy the expensive stuff locally so i can just add it to my tank.

There is cured and un-cured. Many times un-cured trans shipped rock can be buyer beware. Other times it can have lucious growth. You get what you get. Cured premium Fiji from Premium Aquatic will be choice cured live rock. You WILL have to cure it for about a week due to the shipping from them to you. If your tank is established, I would place it in a rubbermaid with a heater, skimmer, and powerhead for a few days track the amonia. When amonia is gone, add one piece at a time to minimize shock to your tank. Do this over several days to a week.
I have tried FFexpress special of $150 or so to your door and it was OK for the price. There is a huge difference when you pay a few extra bucks. Of course this is just my .02. :!:

My advice to you is buy your live rock from Premium Aquatics. I purchased 65lbs. from them about 3 months ago and I am one very satisfied customer (it came to about $300 after shipping costs and tax - but well worth it). Its completely cured and you can basically put it directly into your tank. IMO don't waste your money trying to get something a bit cheaper; better to cough up that extra cash and save yourself from the disappointment of getting second rate lr. HTH!

I got the best and cheapest LR from the classified ads in my paper. If you're willing to wait a while, a good deal might turn up. You also get cured rock with usually lots of good growth this way. I bought the FFE deal also, but wasn't too happy with the rock compared with the $50 I spent on #50 of great coralline covered LR from a guy breaking down his tank. Try searching here in the classifieds and you might get lucky.
