hello,

I have a Remora pro and am curious as to how often other people clean the actual body of the skimmer? Also what color and consistency is the skimmate? I have modified mine to dump the skimmate in a jug, but it looks like mountain dew in color and doesn't skim a whole lot. The amount could be due to the fact that there is not much bioload, but I want to get on a regular schedule of cleaning.

Thanks for any input

I have been using a Remora Pro for 3 months - pulls out some very dark skimmate.

I actually cleaned it out last month - it took about 2 weeks to start skimming again, so I would guess mine does not like to be cleaned.

I clean out the collection cup/foam stem every day or two though.

I clean my remora pro every couple months and empty the collection cup about once a week. I have had mine for about 2.5 years now. The skimate was fairly dry with the Rio1400 on it. But after going thru 2 Rio 1400s in 2 years I switched to mag3. With the mag3 the skimate is more wetter, like you said mountain dew color but still has a lot of dark thick chunks in it.
I think my bioload is fairly light with only 3 fish. I do have a decent amount of corals though but the SPS are just frags 2"-3". I also have added a recent 29g fuge with macroalge so not sure if there is less "waste" in my water.

Any way I feel like Im ramblin so I HTH

My remora skimmer produces dark green water in the collection cup. I've had my tank up since Oct and have around 8 fish and various corals. I clean my collection up every week or two depending on the amount collected. I've actually only cleaned the entire box once about a month ago.
