i have an old acrylic tank that i was thinking of setting up, but when i dug it out i noticed it is starting to turn yellow. is this common? and is there anything i can do about it? the tank is a 120g that i have had for about 6 years now, but i biught it used so i dont know how old it actually is.

old acrylic tanks have been known to turn yellow as the years go on. I do not think there is anything that you can do about it..other than use it as a sump for a larger tank.

There is nothing you can do to it to reverse the yellowing. Newer acrylic resin use a UV blocker that pretty much elimitated this yellowing, but older acrylic tank may not use this type of plastic.

With yellowing, the plastic may became more brittle and weak at the same time. Make sure it is water-worthy before using it.
