My ocean runner came here today. Boy it is bigger than i thought. The pump fits perfectly on the Turboflotor1000. The fittings the rio came with were kinda loose, but the OR is not loose at all. Anyway, i opened the box and it had no instructions whatsoever. Not even a piece of paper. Is it supposed to have instructions?

Another thing, I opened the pump to see if it had a needle wheel in it and it does. The thing is it is a different needle wheel than what originaly came with the rio. The rio came with one needle wheel with "spokes" like a bicycle. The second one it came with is like the first but there are short spikes on each of the "spokes". The needle wheel that the ocean runner came with looks similar to the needle that the rio came with but it is a little bigger. Should i take off that needle wheel and put on the one with spokes and short spikes or should i keep the needle wheel that is one it now? Thanks.

Leave the pump as-is.. it has the proper needle wheel & fittings. This pump is far superior in how it runs that skimmer than the rio.

You might want an air valve on the air intake line, the pump can make more air than the skimmer can handle, especially on an underskimmed system and you may need to throttle the air back a bit for awhile.

Hey Jeremy,
Thanks for the reply. What type of air valve do you mean? Do you have pics of how yours is set up?
BTW i love the way this pump looks and fits in this skimmer. I am so excited.

An air control valve where you can shut the air off.. the LFS should have them for less than a buck.

Wow Iceman,
you got your pump before I did, I guess I'll have to wait for your review of how it works. I ordered mine from reef fanatic and they had to special order it. Fed ex screwed up the shipping to reef fanatic. So it's taken a little longer than expected. I should have it at the begining of next week. Bob at reef fanatic has been great though, he e-mailed me and told me about the mix up and then e-mailed me as soon as he recieved it. He was also very responsive to my questions. I'll definatly order from him again.

One note: Make sure you put the air on the intake side of the pump and not the pressure side of the pump. Putting it on the intake side you get full advantage of the needlewheel impeller. You don't if you put it on the pressure side.

This seems like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised at how many people make this mistake.:D

Ryan,
Hey, i always order from Marine Depot and they get things done on time always. I only use them for dry goods. I think you should too. How much did you pay? i payed $60 with $7 shipping from cali to NY. Anyway, since i do not yet have my tank set up and filled(will be as soon as i find someone to buy my unused wet-dry) so i cannot try it out on my 75gal. But i have a empty 10gal. I will put some dirty water from my betta tank and add table salt to it until it is the right salinity. Dont worry, i know fish cant live in that i am just trying out the skimmer :D . I will let you know how it goes guys.
GT,
I have the Turboflotor1000 in sump.

Iceman,
I got it for $69.00, but I got free shipping, so we paid about the same. I ordered in as part of a bigger order and reeffanatic was the only place that carried everything else that I wanted, and they were wiling to special order the pump for me. So I went with them, over all I was very happy with their customer service and I will order from them again. I've checked out Marine Depot before, and I will probably end up ordering from them some time in the future also.

I also have the Turboflotor 1000 in sump for my 72 gallon tank. It sounds like we have similar set ups.

Hey ryan,
I took some water out of my betta tank and put it in a 10gal tank. i poured salt in it and mixed until i got 1.026 salinity. I hooked up the skimmer in the 10gal with the ocean runner. I plugged both of them in. WOW. Is is so awsome. I think it is just perfect. I had some brown skimmate in about 10 minutes. This is just a simple test run and it worked out good, but there is 1 problem.
The ocean runner is making a vibrating buzz noise. I have the suction cups still on the pump to reduce the noise but it is still loud. I heard these pumps were pretty silent but this is not. Any suggestions?
P.S. I did open the pump and pull out the needle wheel just to see what it looked like. I immediately put it back as it was and closed the pump. Could the noise be because i closed the pump too tight and pushed the needle wheel in too much into the pump?
Thanks,
Alex
