I only need about 20lbs for the new tank I am setting up. Where is the best place to get it that has reasonable shipping? The stores around here want $9.99-$13.99 for base rock covered in bubble alge :?
Thanks

Most online stores are about the same price now, so the main factors now are quality and shipping. I shouldn't be endorsing any specific vendor ;) but I will say that many of our sponsors have top rate rock at affordable prices (~$3/lb for fiji live rock).

all the rock in my tanks came from Paragon. (www.paragonsales.com) I drove up and picked it out myself. They're in Connecticut, so it's only a couple of hour drive for me. I'm really happy with everything I got. (exept a mantis or two, but they are easily solved problems) I paid about $5.50 a pound for fully cured rock. And I got to hand pick my pieces.

I'm pretty sure they ship.

I suggest you give Dale a call at Gulf-View... His is by far the most lively rock available.. and he will custom pick pieces in the size you want...

Most websites package LR in bundles a lot larger than 20 lbs. I got 46 lbs. for 3 bucks a lb, but I don't even think they have a package for 20.

I tend to pick mine myself and if I have to drive a bit, no big deal. The two places I've been to get rock are Tropicorium in Romulus, MI and Harbor Aquatics in northern Indiana. Of the two, I personally preferred Harbor's rock. Harbor Aquatics ( http://www.harboraquatics.com/ ) is a sponsor of Reefs.org btw.

I'll double that recommendation for Harbor. I really need to find a day to get up there before summer break is over. Want to try to set up a date to meet up and hang out, Shane?

Sounds like a plan. I'll keep you posted on when I need to run out that way. I'm about 50% done w/ my fishroom and then the tank's going down there. I'll need some rock and macros so I'll definitely be hitting Harbor sometime in the next month or so. :)

Ditto. I'm in-process on a stand for my 125, and then I'll need more rock. :) Definitely be sometime before aug1.

I've been very pleased with my rock from Premium Aquatics. I got both Marshall and Fiji. I recommend the uncured, as it's about $1 per lb cheaper than cured.

Plus, for you, the shipping shouldn't be too bad, as they are in Indianapolis. You might even consider a day trip to save shipping costs. That's what I did.

I've got 30lbs or rock from Gulf View, and while it definiately has the most life, far and away from anything else I've seen, the shapes are not as cool as the Marshall rock.

Hi,

That address is not registered anymore and a google does not come up with anything. Do you have a phone number ?

Im in CT and thinking about starting out on a reef, somewhere close with prices that good would be great for me.

Thanks in advance.

Dan.

I got my rock from www.ffexpress.com came in 40 lbs though but had large pieces and lots of life.

If I was you I would try to go local though if you are near PA, HA, or any of the others mentioned just drive p and hand pick it to ensure you get the best stuff.
