Hey everyone,

I have gone back to my Idea, to Build a 1000 gal tank. It will be Contructed from Concrete, and plexi glass to see in the tank. I have a Friend that Does this for a Living. He said that it will only cost me about 800 dollars in Material. Well my Question to anyone, is that when in Cleaning this Monster, will using scuba gear be bad for the tank. Should i just use a driving Mask and snorkol. Sorry for my spelling is bad at the moment. :D

Good question, and I'm not sure I know the answer. I guess the dive tank could have some metals in it. I think the bigger risk with dive gear would be banging into things, knocking things over, and scratching the acrylic.

Good luck with your new tank. Post lotsa pics along the way. Lucky bastard. 8O

Give us a break will you. 1000g is hardly big enough that you require to get into the tank. It is so tight with a person in it that he will just crush your corals. Not many people have a 1000g tank so you will just have to try and let us know about the best way.
All the cleaning a reef tank need is cleanig the front glass or acrylic. You can alway use a extensionstick or something.

I've got to agree here. Unless you're building this tank for the sole purpose of being able to jump in it, you don't need to jump in it. All the oils on your body, the possibility of scratching or knocking stuff over, and the stress this will cause your fish make it a bad idea.

Okay Guy's I am not building it to swim in it. I just was wonder if i was to clean it. But I will go with the idea of a pole and a scraper for Aclyic so it does not scratch. I want to build it for my enjoyment and for my friend's and Family's enjoyment.

Thanks :)

How deep will it be? I'm thinking a scaled up standard dimension 125 gallon long (imagine doubling every dimension, 12 feet long x 3 feet deep x 40 inch tall) would be cool. That would only be 3-1/2 feet deep, which is not so bad. If it were my tank, though, I would make it deeper and shallower than that. I clean a 4 foot deep tank, and it's tough to find suitable cleaning tools long enough to scrape the glass. Will it be viewable from many sides, or just one? Imagine how cool it would be to have it viewable from two or all sides, with concrete on the corners... The 4000 guy broke down his tank because of humidity issues. You should consider this as well as all that weight. Even a concrete floor might not be able to hold it.

A LFS here has a 1000g set-up and they just use extentions and stuff like that. Getting in the tank I think would be:

a) to much of a choir
b) body and hair oils would be an issue
c) you would displace a huge amount of water when you get in it and if the overflows cant hack the sudden water level increase it might overflow.

I really think you should maybe modify a few pieces of PVC or something to make extentions for tools... That or use about 50 neighborhood kids and 50 magnets :)
