Hi All,

My 29g has seen an absolute explosion of mushroom territorial expansion. I have tried tactical strikes on specific elements of this agressor, however they are a stubborn enemy. They are tenacious in holding their territory, and just will not be dislodged from their positions.

I am now attempting 'surgical' strikes on select positions.

Weapon: Kent Suberbuffer dKH and a syringe.

Process: 1/2 cup hot water and 1/4 tsp. of buffer.
Inject into 'stalk'.

I originally wanted to move a number to another tank, however before trying to 'finesse' them, I want a proof of concept that this will actually cause enough critical distress to affectively motivate it to release its hold.

I will give a sitrep tomorrow on results, unless there is intel available earlier.

Long term, I am hoping that a smaller, weaker solution injected near their 'foot' will irritate them enough to simply release their hold. If so, they could then be scooped and removed or relocated.

If this doesn't work, then I may have to investigate a high-voltage solution... 8O

My wandering eye also finds the possibility of using Poly-OX..interesting.

This is lame! I think you should not kill them but sell them! DUH I like to throw away free money:

Well, if you know of some way in which I can do that without having to take my rock apart, fine. Otherwise, they resist my attempts at removing.
Think I didn't think of that first ? With somewhere close to 100, I don't feel like chipping my rock away. Please don't call PETA on me, mmmmkay?

One of the best ideas Ive heard (from poster seven) is to temporarily set a small powerhead right in front of them and they will eventually release and float away where you can catch them. They can be defeated with physical combat, but this way may be the best non-violent alternative.

I've tried dislodging them with water pik. Some really stubborn one's are harder, but most works. Works better using freshwater jet too (and your water pik machine lasts longer too, btw).

Hmm, well after a couple of busy days, I checked on the test subjects. They had shrunk to about 1/2 their original size when fully open.

Tried to up the ante a bit, and used a diluted solution of 50/50 fresh water and PolyOX. Its night now, so will report later in the day.

The waterpick/ph idea sounds good, may try it. I would however like to get rid of some of these quickly as they are encroaching on some Polyps, which aren't liking it one bit.

the easiest way to remove them is to brush them with a baby-botle brush, repeat 2 or 3 times and after about 10 days they will be gone forever.

I can attest to them not liking a lot of current. Problem I have is once they detatch they can quickly float away into some hidden crevice to reappear elsewhere in tank.

brushing them will not make them release, it will make them shrink to the point of dissappearing, but they do it slowly without any pollution

I used thick kalk paste that I inject into those mushrooms that wre too close to special corals. let the kalk build a cover over the shrooms with all pumps off for a half hour. If shroom is not covered with the kalk it seems to me that just injecting them with kalk did not always kill them.

If you want to kill a few, then just mix some calcium with a lil water and use your syringe to apply at will. I can assure you it will work, since once [at the beginning of my calcium mixing days] I dropped a gulp of calciun powder [more like small rocks] and it felt on a polyp... the poor thing died so fast it was like Napalm. Furthermore, like an idiot, once I was shaking my measuring spoon to take off some calcium residue, and with lady luck turning her back on me it landed in my eye... man that crap burns like there ain't no tomorrow. I had to flush my eye with cold water for like 10 minutes so it can feel better at least... then I just used some eyewash and got the irritation out. No damge happened to my eye thank God, but it was one scary sight. And I could just hear the exclamation coming from family members and the ol' "significal other" if something would have happened... I wish I could post it, but since most of my family speaks spanish I doubt many would understand, and plus the language used would have been of the unpleasant kind.
