It seems to be extremely durable and bonds acrylic while filling gaps. I'm just wondering if it might leech toxic stuff into the water over time. Any insight out there?

No idea, but my general rule of thumb is if there's a chance, it's not worth it ;)

I would've recommended you contact the manufacturer, but they are unlikely to know. I doubt this product is FDA approved though, so I'd be wary of it.

BTW, if it's made with Bisphenol A, it's ok to use. Otherwise, my original suggestion stands.

What is listed on the ingredients label? Have you done a Google search for the MSDS (material safety data sheet)?

I got the MSDS. I'm not really sure how to use it, however. It doesn't have an ingredients list. It shows two "reportable components" to be Toluene and Naphtha. What else should I look at?

Don't put it in contact with water until you can no longer smell the solvents used in it. (ie- toluene and naptha) Once those have all evaporated away, then it will be safe to put in contact with the fish.

I made the mistake of starting up my tank after I did a patch job with the stuff, thinking it wouldn't readily get into the water (chemically, they shouldn't). I lost a male mandarin, powder blue tang, and copperband butterfly for my stupidity.

So, you can use it, just don't put it into contact with inhabitants until its 100% set.

I used Marine Goop, and it smells for weeks! I will not use it for aquarium unless it is not urgent.

Hmmm, just found a Bisphenol A product they market as "reef safe": Mr.Sticky. Can be found at www.petwarehouse.com. Never used myself, so do it at your own discretion. I think it's a new product and probably not many (if any) have experiences with it.

FWIW I use marine goop on the sealing strips for my pico reef. I definately let it dry before it got wet, and now the condensate from the water column settles on the top glass lid (whose edges have weatherstripping sealed with MG) and run down the sides of the stripping back into the main tank. Man I wouldnt want to submerge or wet it before drying, but afterwards I have personally had no trouble with it. I hate to endorse it though for marine aquarium use, Id rather just say it has worked okay for me so far.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will use it and just leave it to cure for a week. I used some household goop on another project a few days ago and it doesn't smell at all anymore so I think it should be safe.
