HOWEVER, if your tank is wide enough as well as long, you may be able to crecreate a "raceway", a continuous clear circular path around the LR without much sharp bends and corners. Usually to achieve this, your tank foot print size should be at least 4' x 4', or a circular tank.

Just to let you know, female Maroon clown can get to about 6 inches and can be a very mean fish. People have reported that they drags fish that they don't like and stuff them into the anemone. However, I think they are the nicest looking clown fish. They also only accept BTA as host in nature.

fwiw, i have a maroon in my tank - when i first got it i was told it was a false perc. i found out later that it was a maroon by sharing pics and behavior on this board. it was about an incha and a half when i got it and is now close to 3 inches.

i do not have an anemone in my tank and the clown has hosted with my xenias. i have to agree that he/she (?) can be quite aggressive at times with any fish that creep too closely to his "domain". he will either nose nudge them away or whip the water column with his tail fin so as to create a current strong enough to scare them away. he also has a bad habit of "rearranging" things in my tank.

but i enjoy my clown and for the most part, he never ventures outside his space of about 1/4 of the tank. i don't think he's ever even seen the left side of the tank.

Thanks for the help you guys. For the most part the answers Ive recieved in this forum have been helpfull. Although on this occasion they were not. It seems as if many people here dont give advice with the intention to help the person learn. They try to make the person feel dumb. Then when they are faced with a question they cant answer instead of leaving it alone they offer an opinion based on emotion and not fact.I only recieved a couple of facts on this post and the rest were pure emotion. Thanks again. 8)

As I said before...

the reason newbies use this is for POLITE suggestions and comments, not to have self proclaimed experts try and prove how much they know and force their beliefs on the rest of the world.

It seems there are so many people here just trying to prove how much they know (when they really don't know squat) rather than having an interest in helping a "newbie"

Look at almost every thread and there are major differences in opinions. Worse yet the conflicting opinions are coming from people that actually think they know what they are talking about. Be careful taking any advice from bulletin boards as you don't know where the information is really coming from!!!

I disagree. I thought everyone on this thread offered genuine, sincere advice. And- I didn't think anyone was rude except the people who didnt like some of the advice. It would be nice if people argued for their own opinion instead of against anothers.

It is possible to keep a dozen fish in that 50 gallon. It is possible to keep a dog in a 10' x 10' cage in your back yard for it's entire life. Do what you want. A question was asked in a public forum. Expect a few opinions you don't agree with.

I have 2 small fish in my 75. I took my yellow tang back to the store long before I had ever heard of the tang police or RdO. I just happen to think that less fish gives me more room for many other things that reefs have to offer.

I've been lurking here for a few years and it has always been this way. I once was flamed unmercifully for simply asking what the requirements for keeping an anemone were. Take what you want and leave the rest.

FWIW, I've tried to keep yellow tangs on three separate occasions in 70 gallon tanks and couldn't keep any alive beyond six months. I've been successful with every fish and invertebrate I've ever kept except yellow tangs.

Not to be mean, just trying to make the point.

What is the difference in driving a race car around a 1/4 mile track and a mile track. You won't be able to gain the speed in the straightaways. You'll bump into the walls more often.

The longer tanks allow for longer bursts of speed. They allow for a longer "glide" time.

Your observation is exactly why I have NASCAR. Ovals aren't racing, any moron can flat pedal a car around an oval regardless of distance. Road courses require skill.

But I get your point about the tank. How about getting the tank to swim upstream (against a powerhead)? I guess they don't make hamster wheels for fish. Yeah, I know...
