Yes, they gets shy at first. Watch out if he starts to show sign of ich though.

I just read your other posts, and it seems your tank is 20Gal and only 3 weeks old. Honestly, I don't think this fish is suitable to go into your tank yet. This fish is a hearty eater, and need plenty of food to sustain it's weight. Your sand bed is too small and still too new to harbor enough critters to fill it's need.

If you still have the chance to return this fish, please do so for your wallet's sake and for the fish. Otherwise, try feeding him live brineshrimp to coax him out of cave. Afterwards, you have to train him to take frozen mysis shrimp and/or flakes to keep him healthy.

BTW, Welcome to Reefs.org. This fish has been discussed numerous times before. You can browse through past threads to know more on this beautiful goby. Just go ahead and click "search" on the header of this BB. You can also get the most out of this BB by taking a few minutes to browse in http://www.reefs.org/library/howto.html.

there is only one. the sand bed is about 1 to 2 inches deep. there is growth of algae on the sand, but he seems to ignore it. so far i have tried feeding him brine and formula 1.
ich shouldn't be a problem, i dipped him a couple times before he came home from the store i work at.
