so i was gonna rebuild my 46g and then i broke it.
so,.....
then i was gonna replace it with another 46g but then thought "why stay so small, why not go bigger and make it easy on yourself?"

so i started looking at 60g and 75g's.

i then happened on a deal at a big chain store where they supposedly were mandated by the head office to eliminate all displays other than the wall tanks. they were, and presently still are, going to sell me an 80g glass and stand (fancy one with drawers and crap.... ) for less than half price (totalling $200).
they need only empty it and they are presenlty waiting on an infection of some kind to subside in the wall tanks first.
this one has no canopy, i'm thinking i could buy one for another hundred or so.

well i couldn't stop there, i had to look around more.

i happened on a 90g glass today for $220. what's 20 bucks, eh? i could make a stand (prolly a whole lot nicer than the drawered one) and canopy for a hundred in material and be that much better off than the 80g.
lights, etc. wouldn't be much if any more because they are essentially the same other than the height.

well, being the incessant bastard i am, i didn't even think of limiting myself there either...... now i see the 120 tall is essentially the same as the 90g except it is deeper (front to back). oh, fer chrissakes!

whats another forty bucks, eh?

hmmmmm, i here there is a 150 tall as well.......

It sounds like to me that you have completed your first step in the reefer 12 step progam and should admit that your a reef aholic and your life will become unmanagable.

Pod, you know the answer. Quit fooling yourself. Get the biggest tank that your room and wallet will allow. Why stop at the 150 if you can accomdate a 300, or a 500, or a 1000!

Go large. Size does matter!

that is excellent size tank for a reef. The only downside. It has its limitations on what type of fish being that it's only four foot.

cube tanks are nice as long as they've got some size to them. I have 120 like you're looking at. And if I ever had to take down my big tank I would use the 120 for a reef.

it's a 265. The funny thing I never meant it to be a salt water tank. And unfortunately if I planned it to be in the first place I would have done things differently. I find the most annoying part of the tank is lighting it. Plus my stand is too short. So I have to have my sump hang out on one end so I can get a big enough skimmer in it.

I've got a 46 in my office and was planning to build a wall to wall shlf unit and put in a 180. Now, I'm thinking about all the extras I will need such as a large refusium and a top off system. There just isn't enough room for all of it with a large skimmer.

New Idea. I now want to add on to my house and build a 15' x 20' room addition where I can put a 300 to 500 gallon unit with a room behind the tank for all the extras. Now I'm looking at $30,000 for the expansion. I guess the process never ends.

Funny thing is, that'll be the lesser expense of the endeavor, compared to the cost of the reef system + livestock.

Hi. My name is Scott, and I've been a reefaholic for 7 years. It started with a 20 gallon mini reef, and now it's out of controll with a 150 full blown reef, hard plumbed outside the house, with more livestock than I'm willing to admit. The electric company is like my pusher. Help me.

Yep. was going to buy a 46. then I took a look at a 72 bow. Nice. But building the stand/canopy is gonna be tough. Why not get a 90? nice square, and easy to build. Good thing the Laywers froze my bank account this week. I was going to shell out for a new tank, and start on the stand.

It's never gonna end. Only get better. (sooner or later I'll move to an island.)

Don´t sweat it, just buy the bigger tank that you can fit in your house. That is actually the rule for us the aquarists, ohh and don´t listen to your wife when she starts saying "That tank is too big!!". :D
