What would be the best height for a constant water level in the skimmer section of a sump? I realize skimmers can be tweaked, but if you were building an overflow section that always stayed constant, what height would be optimal? I thinking around 6", but would like to hear from others. I'm probably going with a 6" diameter EuroReef, but want a sump section that would be the best possible height for most in sump skimmers.

totally depends on the skimmer, I know a euroreef will need a higher water line than a becket, because of the insane amounts of air beckets inject

Definitely depends on the skimmer. For the Euroreef, however, I've found it doesn't really matter all that much so long as the water level is below the set height of the extendable output pipe. Euroreefs are one of the least finicky skimmers out there, and I've tried just about all of them ;)

Since you went there! :P
I pretty much want to get the EuroReef for my new 125 setup, but my LFS guy advises the Aquamedics TF pro. He says that there's really no need to spend all the extra $$ on the EuroReef. Anyone had experience with both?

what about for a turbofloater
I had a 20 long with the turbofloater hanging on the outside I recently swapped the 20 long for a 20 tall to knock out some of the splash and salt creep however the skimmer was to talk to hang on the side anymore so i had to put it in sump, now its not near as efficient plus i have a ton more micro bubble coming out of it that end up in the main tank after being sucked up by the return

I have a Turboflotor 1000 on my 120 FOWLR with 33-gallon sump. I supply it with a Rio 600, and use an inexpensive Elite air pump to feed air to it. Without the external air pump I found the bubble production to be subpar, but with that $5.00 pump, it is phenomenal. The skimmer began producing thick foam the moment I turned it on. I've been very pleased with it.

The water depth in the sump runs about 10-12" and I've had no problems whatsoever.

Take a look at this thread for more TF1000 discussion: http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=35893

I also have a turboflotor in-sump and I don't think the water level matters any, seeing as there is only 1 water inlet that is situated about an inch above the bottom of the sump. BTW I have never needed to use an air pump on it.
