I am considering shipping frags to hobbiest. Where can I find help in how to do it right in summer & in winter. Where do I get packaging, size of frags, amount of water, heat packs, cooling packs should I float speciment by attaching to styro or not etc... If you have your own methods please advise or direct me to a good source.
THANKS

osama:

Here you go:

For the summer, it can get tricky. this is when cold packs are useful.

I think during extreme temperature times, shipping should be a minimum and certain requirements such as picking up at FedEx would be mandatory.

p.s. If you ship, I'll probably take some frags. :)

Are you going to IMAC since it's in Chicago? We'll be there.

mgk: Thanks for the site. If you or others reading this can tell me where to get the shiping boxes with a styrofoam liner. What size box to get and how many frags can I put in each box. The article shows a box that says fish/perishables but cautions that fedex will not accept shipping fish. Should I get boxes that have a plain exterior?
Where can I get plastic bags that are 4 mils thick...
Places on the net to get heat & cold packs How about ebay?//
Thanks
mgk: I live close by from IMAC. I do not know if I will be there or not. You are welcome to stop by our place/house if you want to see the tank. email me name & phone when/if you are coming in the area and if you are inclined to stop by.

THANKS

Bags and heat packs are available at

Cold packs here (I've not used cold packs before):
http://www.no-odor.com/freezeze/econo_pack.htm

For FedEx or UPS, try to keep the box size to 12x12x12 or less. You should be able to find someplace in the Yellow Pages under packaging. See here

The packaging stores may also have insulated containers that fit inside, otherwise, you can make your own. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and get 1 or 1.5" Styrofoam sheeting and cut it down to fit inside the cardboard box.

p.s. as we get closer to finding out itinerary, I'll email you. Thanks!

thanks mgk; with the coming of spring I think I will try shipping. Wife is not objecting to taking on the task of handling the shipping after I do the packing. between the hobby & full time job It is good to have an understanding partner willing to pitch in.
