Is a 250 watt mh too much lite for a 29 gal??
I currently have 165 watts of pc. 2-10000K and 1-50/50 and everything seems to be doing great.
I am an electrician and seem to have a few 175 and 250 watt mh ballasts that were "leftover" from jobs I did and ended up at my house....odd huh?
Anyway what i have in mind is to lose the center pc from hood and replace it with MH and replace 10000k's with actinics.
anyone have a similar setup??
any suggestions? or comments are welcome

oh yeah, right now I just have a few soft corals, toadstool, rhodactis type shroom, pulsing xenia, green starpolyps,
a few zoos and a piece of monti.cap. but would like to be to have pretty much anything I wanted in there

TIA

Mike

I think a 250 would give you corals and fish a great suntan..lol
I have a 60 and running two 175 MH's and its perfect. My biggest concern would be how much the 250 would heat the water, unless the bulb was far enough from the waters surface with ample cooling. Is the 29 a high or long?

i don't think so. my brother in law has a 250 on a 38gallon which is only 2" taller than yours. he has phenomenal coral growth. you probably won't be able to keep too many low light corals like shrooms unless you shade them. this would make a smoking SPS tank!

yes.... the pc's are in an ultimate reef hood from pet supply liquidator that i have suspended over tank. Didnot want to go with the typical enclosed wooden hood because od the heat issue
