Ok, here goes...I've had a phosphate problem for a couple of months now. I managed to keep the hair algae down with the help of some nice critters, but with the upgrade to MH with VHO supplementation, it's really starting to spread again. My origional phosphate reading was around 5ppm. It's down to 0.4ppm now with the addition of my refugium and new feeding schedule. For that last couple of ppm's, which phosphate remover should I go with? I'm looking at Kent phosphate sponge and the Seachem Phosguard. I've heard good things about both, and I really wanna get rid of this crap. thanks

i usually go with the {cough! cough!} marc weiss {cough} product.
it is really expensive but i find it to be easier on the tank's inhabitants. it is iron based as opposed to the aluminum base that is utilized by the kent product. the kent product really shocks my tank when i use it.

ROWAPhos is another brand name for the Weiss product but i have yet to see it available in The States.

I've used the so called "poly filter" in the past that changes color
when used up. It worked, and was cheaper than other products. :)

I like the Marc Weiss Phosphate/Silicate magnet - uses an iron based attractant like most commercial water treatment plants. Have used some of the aluminum based ones in the past and they always freaked my leathers out (sarcophyton especially). If I could figure out where to get this stuff in bulk would be nice rather than 20 bucks a baggie from mr. Weiss.

i'd suggest a written msds request to the company, with a duplicate of the request saved.

polyfilter is made by PolyBioMarine and it's a substitute for activated carbon. It does claim to remove phosphate but the products such as Phosguard do a better and faster job. Polyfilters are great for removing copper and turn color to indicate what they remove. I've used them for years and really like them. When you buy, be sure they are white and haven't turned yellowish.

Good idea Vitz. Wow why hasn't anyone tried this with any of his other more dubious products?

A company called Poly-Bio, out of NJ. It's a white pad, sold in most any
well stocked aquarium store. Like most stuff, it's cheaper by mail order.
