in one week. And it continues to deteriorate. All water parameters are perfect. All corals and fish are thriving. Any ideas? The star has gotten so ragged that I just took him out and put him into a bucket with a heater.

They tend to do that, IMO they should be left in the ocean as most people have a very poor success rate with these seastars. I had one, the same thing happened eventually it died :(

Mike - I also had one that did the same thing after a few months. We really don't know enough about their nutritional requirements and feeding habits - mostly anecdotal and speculative information. A large , very stable tank with good growth on live rock more than 6 months old is what I have heard reccomended by some knowledgable people.

Also all echinoderms are fairly sensitive to salinity changes starfish especially so - no rapid fluctuations is a must and also for this reason they probably don't do as well in small tanks where parameters fluctuate more easily and drastically.

Man that sucks. I got the little guy as part of a clean-up crew about 11 months ago. He has been fine the whole time, and then he seemed to deteriorate overnight.
