Hello,

I'm planning out my first closed loop. Its going on a custom 7.5 aquarium with a 3/4" bulkhead in the back center. From there I want it to go to a mag 500, then to an SCWD, and then to two returns, one on each side of the back. I've never done any of this plumbing stuff so am pretty unsure of what all I need to order. Here is my list so far:

4 Feet ¾” UV Resistant Black Flexible Tube
3/4" Male Adapter
3/4" Female Adapter
MagDrive 500gph Water Pump
¾” Modular Pipe Return Tubes (2)
¾” Intake Screen
3/4" Slip Hose Barbs (2)
¾” Union Ball Valves (2)
Some 3/4" PVC

Here are my questions:
Is this all I need or more than I need?

Are the union ball valves necessary at 15$ a pop, or can I just get regular ball valves?

Do you need any special glue/tape or anything to fit the pieces together?

Whats the best way to go about mounting this to the back of the tank, specifically the 3/4" modular return tubes?

Thanks a lot, sorry for the bunch of "newbie plumber" questions.

i have done couple closed loops but not with SCWD so not sure about mounting.

I usually just run to Home Depot or Lowe's and be sure i have all fittings then special order the rest. That way i can see exactly what connections i need

Different opinions out there about cement... I use the purple primer first to soak in to the PVC and soften up a bit then just PVC cement and twist quarter of a turn. Have not had any leaks this way.

Use Teflon tape on threads.

Better safe than sorry. Get the union ball valves if you can or at least the valve with a separate coupler to disconnect pump if you need to do maintenance. $15 now will be worth it in the long run

Find out about your 3/4 inch intake strainers, find out if need to be slip or threaded male/female.

hope this helps a little bit
