I just can't seem to keep mushrooms going, which is wierd, becuase everything else seems to grow fine.

75gal
96w actinic
96w white
175w halide
Fluval404
bak-pak skimmer

I add a teaspoon if iodide and strontium daily, along with 15ml of calcium b-onic. I've got some standard red mushrooms that I put in about a month and a half ago and they were doing fine for the first few weeks, but seem to be getting smaller. I had some flouresent green ones that did the same thing. They are currently placed on the botom of the tank.

I do 10-15% water changes weekly from the UCSD (University of California, SD) scripps institute which has pre-filtered water straight out of the ocean that they have setup for aquarists like myself.

Also have
Plusing Xenia which is growing like crazy and has already split off onto other rocks.
Green star polyps and yellow polyps that are also doing very well. Both of these are in the middle of the tank in terms of lighting. Finger leather coral and a green brain coral are on the bottom and are both doing well. For fish, I only have a sail-fin tang and two bangi cardinals.

Any ideas why I can't grow any mushrooms? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

I know that when I switched from NO flourescent lights to 2x55 PC's, my shrooms hated it and are never as big as they once were. I don't mind though, as mine were getting out of control. You already have yours on the bottom of the tnk, but are they in direct light? Try moving them around a bit. Also, you may consider an iodine/iodide test kit. Daily additions seem a bit much to me.

i wouldn't add that much of anything daily by way of 'supplements'-if i'ts something i don't daily test for

i would recommend a series of large water changes, wait a month (after stopping the iodine/stront. additions completely) and then trying shrooms again

I would also agree that you're dosing too much iodide. Try placing them under a powerhead or some other light-blocking object. In my 55 gallon, I have 2x110 actinic and 1x55 PC. They absolutely HATE it, so I placed them under a powerhead and now they're fine.

way too much iodine..i add 2 drops every week. also my mushrooms love my MH lighting i keep them at the bottom of my 90 and they do great so i dont think its the lights. BTW do you have any crabs? are they shedding like crazy with all that iodine? i accidently overdosed the iodine once(dropper broke and i put in like 8 drops) and all my crabs and shrims shed the next mourning.
