I just discovered that there is a small, pinhead-size chip (well, less than 1/4") out of the inside the bottom of my new 75g RR (near the center). I think it was caused by dropping a tool inside when we were building the stand and canopy. Am I screwed? Do I need a new tank?

hard to say without seeing it. can you take a pic? try filling it with fresh water out side to see if it holds.

Yeah you can silicone a piece of glass over it, hell a buddy of mine used 2 pieces of glass to cover up 2 drilled holes at the bottom of a 75 that had a closed loop... so far so good... but if it's empty I'd say return it..

What about using epoxy instead of Silicon? I think something like epoxy would have a stronger bond then silicon.

Hi,

I dont think epoxy is as pressure resistant as silicone. i would think the epoxy might bond better bet would become brittle due to the pressure the water, rock, sand would put on it....

if it is on the bottom.. either way you are gonna have to drain it to get to it. i would say make a warrant claim with the maker and get it replaced....

leaky tanks are bad ju-ju!

Whether it's pin head size or 1/4". do you want to take chances?
The bottom of the tank will be holding 800 or so pounds of water, sand and rock.
If I were you, I'd return it and upgrade to a 90 gal.

I mis-read that... I missed the "...when we were buliding..." I assumed that the LFS had built the stand and canope...
