I've never tried any of those chillers, but I have been using an Aqualogic inline chiller for 5 years now without fail. They're also located in San Diego, so local pick up might be possible for you.

New company called Pacific Coast Chillers has some pretty nice/cheaper models. Premium Aquatics has some images/info online of their stuff. JBJ also has a new line of chillers that are really nice. They are a little more expensive though. I used an Aqualogic 1/6hp chiller and it worked great for the three years my 60g reef was up, but it ran a lot I think because 1/6hp wasn't enough juice or it could have been because the chiller was an older model.

I think I'm going to get the new JBJ chillers for my tank. They are really quiet, energy efficient and look very well built. They also have a pretty small footprint and controller built into the chiller. Let me know what you decide on.

Jason,

Thanks for the info. Here is the link to Aqua Medic http://www.aqua-medic.de/index0.html and link to Fritz http://www.fritzpet.com/chillers.html

Regardless how small it is..it will not fit under my stand..not enough room with my 30gal sump down there :(

That's ok, you really shouldn't put a chiller in your stand. They create a lot of heat and would work against itself when trying to cool the tank.

I am using a sedra 7000.. 700gph. I contacted aquamedic about the flow rates. the chiller is really efficent. it doesnt need alot of flow to pull the temp down in the tank. i asked if i could put 800gph thru the chiller. they said "yes" there is no worry of bustin the heat exchanger...

i am gonna plumb the tank with a quiet one here soon. I will need to use a ball valve anyway...

I used a Quiet One on my last chiller. The pump ran pretty warm, but dead silent. I'm still debating on weather to "T" off my sump return to pump water through the chiller. I have the sump return (AmpMaster 2000) turned down a bit with a ball valve. I will probably go that route so I don't have to add another pump to my plumbing.

I will also need to go with the vavle option also..but how can you figure out the GPH after the vavle? I will be using the Iwaki MD30RLXT 960gph @4" head...so is it accurate to say that when I split my one line into two lines, that each line will then have 480gph running through it?

I'm going to try a simple test. See how long it takes to fill up a 1 gallon jug. Then divide that number by an hour to get GPH rating, and then adjust my ball valve accordingly.

thats much better...

The chiller I may go with is the Aqua Medic Titan 250. Its max gph is 800 lph, or 211 gph...hmm..thats a problem..may have to go to the next model..it can handle max of 528 gph.

You can just turn down the amount of water with a ball valve.

For that size tank they have a few chillers for auction [new and used] on eBay. I saw the Titan for a 50G tank for about $300. You might want to look at it. Just my 2 Cents.

My plumbing is going to look like a crazy maze by the time I am done with it.
