I introduced an angelfish to my tank about 2 weeks ago. I noticed this morning it has a small patch of white fungus right above its pectoral fin on the right side of its body. Any idea what this is and how do you treat it

Put it in a seperate tank if possible and treat it with copper. Also try soaking food in Garlic extract. Ive had the same prob before and this worked for me.Good luck.

though i would hestitate to recommend a treatment w/out a much clearer pic (that would be quite the irresponsible thing to do)-a drop of malachite green, applied directly to the 'fungus', if it is that, w/a q-tip, -should work

dip the end of a q-tip into some malachite green, and touch the patch directly with the tip-while the fish is gently held in a net

though a better pic would be advisable, first-for it could also be lymphocystis-something which many angels get

if it's lympho-it can be very gently scraped off the fish-even a partial removal usually seems to trigger an immunoresponse from the fish-which will then, usually, fight the rest off by itself

Lymphocystus is common virus among larger angelfish such as Pomacanthus, Holocanthus, and Euxiphipops. Your juvenile Blue Angel or Queen (the pic is too fuzzy) should be captured and the spot gently removed by hand. Offer vitamin enriched food, use Selcon or similar, and maintain the fish in optimum water conditions. I have seen many fish covered with the virus and they usually heal themselves if it does not prohibit the fish from eating. Lympho is usually seen on the finnage of the fish first.
