I really wanted to share my latest pride and joy. I wanted to show everyone the great quality that Brian Ferguson put into this skimmer. After several discussion and constant questioning. We came up with something that should really last a long time and most importantly, is scalable and will really kick A**. :D

**Images shown in following message**

It's a 48" Tall Dual Beckett Skimmer with two single injectors. The base unit is 12", it has two 16" risers and collection cup/discharge area. It's not in operation just yet. I will post pics on this thread once I do.

Here's the Beckett's. Brian usually combines both Beckett's so that one pump can be used. I asked him to give me single Beckett's so this give me the option of running dual pumps, when needed. Each injector has it's own air valve for independent control.
Finally here's a pic of the bucket adapter. High quality workmanship throughout the entire product. Man those polished rounded edges are amazing! :eek1:

If you don't know who Brian Ferguson is, he teaches the MACO courses over at Reefs.org. He just finished up the Calcium Reactor Course held over the winter and is now gearing up for the Skimmer class. He's great to work with, high quality products and great pricing. Look at the pictures and judge for your self.

Also, he didn't ask me to post this for him. I receive no benefit for posting this thread. I just wanted to share this high quality product with the rest of Reef Central.

You can contact Brian via e-mail at [email protected]
He doesn't have a web site. However, he has built many skimmers for hobbyists and LFS. He can get a bit busy from time to time, so if your looking for a skimmer in a week, well I'd look elsewhere. High quality skimmers take time to produce.

I won't post prices on the skimmer. I can tell you that the pricing was very competitive and since this was custom job, it wouldn't be fair to do so... Hope everybody understands.

Dude, all of your photos are the Reef Central Sohol tang.

I'd like to see a pic of your skimmer. You are right about Brian. He builds top quality and teaches the same. I am very please with the reactor i built in the Maco course and am looking forward to the skimmer class.

Here's a pic of the entire skimmer.

Uhmm... I can see them fine? Let me try to upload them here...

Here's the first three...

I have seen brian's skimmer in action and it really kicks ass. All the fittings and connections are snug and practical. The one on his tank has an 18" difference in collapsed and functioning height. Amazing and Brian is a great Hobbyist too.

The rc logos are probably due to not having logged onto their site. But, they are a repitition of what follows. I cannot see the third set of images either tho...

Wade, I double posted somehow and deleted the uploads from the third post. However they impacted the second post. Could you fix that for me? I uploaded the images to the RDO server via the attachment.

I can't find the missing images (if I interpreted your message correctly)... if you have another set, upload them again please (make sure you don't have spaces in the image name). I also removed the reefcentral links to speed things up and not hog people's bandwidth...

I have a 40 inch tall Reef Sciences skimmer. Awesome skimmer.

I don't have an updated picture. As pictured, it was powered by an Iwaki 55 RLT with a single 1 inch manifold powering two becketts.

I built my own dual 1 inch assembly (each beckett is now seperate) and I use an AmpMaster 3000 to power both becketts. Really kicking ass now.

It was a complete custom job to my specs. If you notice it's actually opposite of most skimmers (side gate value is on). This change required all the internal plumbing to the skimmer to be changed as well. Brian had no issues doing this custom work for me.

very nice skimmer! I dont have any experience with the becket style skimmers.. what is the bubble size like.. I notice that the skimmer is really tall.

Is the flow rate high in the skimmer so you need the height for the contact time???

Reefland

your skimmer is small compared to the other one....is this on your 180g... explain the difference if you can...

I am planning a big reef and want all the ammo i can fit in my pouch! :D

The skimmer is only 8 inches shorter than the other one, yet much larger than it needs to be. I got it this size to allow for a future upgrade in tank size. This skimmer would easily handle a 300+ gallon tank.

If you notice a flange in the middle of the mixing chamber, thats allows the entire center section to be removed to have a smaller skimmer. I have a redundant set of injector tubes as well to match the lower height.

Bubble size can be tuned. Strong pump and smaller amount of air yield smaller bubbles.

LA - While Rich's skimmer is 8" shorter than mine. I'm sure both could easily handle the same load, very easily. For me, it was an extra measure of safety. I plan on going to a 550gal at some point in the near future. I did not want to upgrade. Brain almost talked me into a quad. I was tempted, but didn't see the need for it. Hopefully I was right. 8O

I also can cut the height down to 32" by removing the top section and installing matching injector tubes.

I went ahead and asked for mine to have separate injectors. While Rich's original setup had both injector running off a single pump and manifold.

Rich - I see your running an Amp 3K. Why? This is not a pressure rated pump? Just curious...

Because I had one laying around. Even if it drops 50% of its rated volume it's still better than the pump I was using.

In terms of skimmer performance or electricity savings? Aren't you causing a lot of back pressure to placed on the pump by using it in a non pressure rated scenario?

Both... it performed better powering two becketts than the Iwaki 55RLT I was using and used less electricity at 1.9 amps according to my meter. I don't recall what the Iwaki was but I'm pretty sure is was 2.x amps.
