Heya.

Due to limitations about plumbing knowledge, lack of tools, space in the apartment and whatnot, this seems to be ideal for my 'fuge needs. Has anyone used this, and if so would you give it a favorable recommendation? Can you tell me anything more about this, such as potential downsides or whatever tips you have?

That fuge works fine IME. All you need is lights, and usually the tank light is enough. No complaints about it myself and I believe it's a good addition to a small aquarium.

In reference to your question for me in PM: what I was talking about in the other thread was the Bakpak (http://www.marinedepot.com/a_ps_cpr_bak ... sp?CartId=). It's a hang-on protein skimmer that is decent up to a 30 gallon (40 would be pushing it). It's a protein skimmer and serves a different function then the CPR hang-on Refugium.

I have one on a AGA 7 minibow - works fine for me - I have a few pieces of chaetomorpha in there - some have complained about it overflowing but I have not heard the exact circumstances.

It's an aquarium running on it's own with a pump to return water to the main tank. It doesn't hang on the tank. If you are looking at H.O.B. fuges because you don't have room over or under your tank, you don't want that.

I have one of these (the medium size one). I didn't have room behind my main tank so I hung it off the back of the sump. It works fine. Mine almost overflowed one, but I solved the problem by removing the long inside tube on the outlet, so rather than siphoning water out of the fuge it just gravity drains.

Inwall - they do have their own pump, and they do hang on the tank.

The HOT 'fuges are fine, rang. Just be sure to keep intakes and outlets clear, which is sage advice no matter.

I built a hang on fuge for just under $20. It was pretty easy. I had most of the parts around, all I needed was a piece of plexi and a small pump. I got the plastic from the scrap bin, and a rio 50 when I placed another order online

I have had the large CPR refugium for a year or 2. I like it. No problems at all.

The HOB is great. Ithink it would be hard for it to overflow. Once in a while mine seems to not drain as efficiently as it should and just put a small air tube up into the overflow drain and suck out some air. Once every few months seems to be fine. Or you could do what Baseman said and eliminate the siphon. The HOB is not going to be as good as a big under tank refugium, but it's certainly better than nothing. I don't think Inwall knows what it is.
