In the process of adding a 20 gallon sump to my 65 gallon tank. As space in the stand is limited, it will require the use of a submersable pump. Looking at using a Mag 9.5. Does anyone have a ballpark figure on how much of a temperature increase I might expect?

Thanks!

My tank was started using a Rio 2500. I changed it out to the Mag Drive 9.5. I noticed my tank temp was less.

Thanks, Tremelle. I guess I should have mentioned that I now use 3 maxijet 900's, one for the skimmer, and 2 for circulation. With the addition of the new pump, I hope to eliminate the 2 maxi's I use for circulation.

According to a chart I have the mag 9.5 uses 95 watts, if that helps. Added heat would probably depend on total system volume.

hi.
The temperature increase will depend on total system volume, but added heat will be the same for the same wattage no matter how small is the tank.

I have a 58 Oceanic, almost the identical tank to the 65.

I am using a 20G high for y sump.

I use a mag12 for my skimmer and a mag9.5 for my return.

No heat problems at all.

Thanks, everyone!

Sounds like heat shouldn't be a problem.

Mountainbiker619 - I take it you use Sen pumps? Have you used both, and why do you prefer the Sen, if that is the case?

I had a Mag-24 that added 8 degrees to my water temp..now running a Sen 800...maybe 1 degree added to water temp. Plus it is MUCH quieter than the Mag-24

The 9.5 generates little heat. The Mag 18/24 can be problems when submerged due to excessive heat.

I just got a Mag 7 for my chiller. I hope it doesn't create a lot of heat. The last thing I need in my tank is more heat!

I don't think you'll see much of a temp increase. I have a Mag 7, 9.5, and 12 running in a 72g w/o any heat problems.
