Hey......I've got a 75 reef, that by the way, is looking awesome! :D What a world of difference a good skimmer makes.

I just recently added a pistol shrimp and a yellow watchwam goby. What a fasinating relationship these guys have!

I have two boue damsels, which are like two little devils. They will not leave the goby alone. In fact I thought it was dead until I briefly show him yesterday. He and the pistol shrimp are busy digging tunnels.

My question: Does anyone know of a good way to get these damsels out of my reef? they are beautifully blue, but nasty little critters!

I'd appreciate anyone's comments/advice.

Thanks,

Michael

I have actually heard of people using #2 hooks and some fishing line. Some of their favorite food, and you're fishing in your reef. Seriously.

I've actually heard of this method used quite successfully. What the heck, if it seems pointless after 10 mins or so, you can stop fishing and go drink some beer. Just like the real thing :D

As you mentioned, your tank looks very good right now. Tearing the tank down would certainly cause you much stress and possible hair loss.

If you manage to hook 'em, I understand that the injury infliched is minimal, and, IMHO, it would be much less stressful than chasing them with a net for a couple of hours.

Just make sure nobody's watching you. That would be a hard one to live down.

There is a chance that the lion may not eat them right away, then you are stuck with a lionfish. The trap is a much better idea. The fishing technique is interesting..... sounds like fun!

Tearing the tank down is ok as long as you set it back up :D

I'd like to see someone hold a tazer over the water and see if you could shock the fish. When I was in conservation camp as a kid we collected sculpins etc from a trout stream by holding giant electrodes on either side of the stream and netting the stunned fish in a seine below. I wonder if that was dangerous?

It probably would hurt the corals, but maybe not...

:D Have heard of the fishing line and tiny trout hooks used before. Many more people seem to be using this technique now since I have seen it referred to frequently on RC.

One word of caution, file the barb off the hook before you use it so as to spare the fish the distress of tearing out half his lip once he's caught. Also this filing off the barb will be a life-saver if somehow he swallows the hook. :P

I believe that due to more and more reefs being setup that this technique is gaining popularity. People just do not want to tear down what took so long to build and nuture, just for a mis-behaving fish.

So be careful or you know who will be after you when she reads this post  ... LOL

Just caught my blue devil yesterday with some brine shrimp in a 2-litres coke bottle. It took only 20 second and devil fell for it. Of course the night before I was using a smaller water bottle for a few hours and that was unsucessfull.

I have used the fish hook method with good results and no harm to the fish. You'll need a #26 or smaller hook used fo tying dry flies and some small tippet (fishing line). Just hook on a small piece of shrimp and add very small split shot, weight a few inches above the hook.

I had to pull out most of my rock to get mine out. All 10 of them!

It only took about 1/2 hour but I only had fish at the time.

My best advice to you is to start feeding them from a net , simply put the good in a net and feed them from that , in no time at all they will get used to eating from it and you can snatch them out when they are feeding .

try it , its easy
