Try training him to feed from the net, or make a tank divider, move the live rock to one side, and trap him on the "wrong" side. Then net him up. OR!

I had a similar problem a while back and I am having the same problem again. As far as i'm concerned damsels are the spawn of satin. I caught mine with these items. One shrimp from the store, some three pound test line and the smallest damn hook you can find. The smallest hook I was able to find was in the form of a treble hook. I just cut off two of the hooks and then tied it on the line. I then put a bite size piece of shrimp on the hook. The first time I tried to catch him it was at night and the lights were off. It was also right after feeding time so he wouldn’t just take it. He kept playing with it. Well the next day when the lights came on I gave it another go. As soon as he saw it he nailed it and I jerked his ass out of the tank. Worked quite well I thought. The damsel I have now is a little more skittish and it takes him too long to get to the shrimp. I have to keep pulling the hook out because all the other fish are trying to get it. Just be careful you don’t loose the hook in there. I got mine caught on a rock and the line broke. Before I could do anything my brittle star grabbed it and was curling his leg up to get it to his mouth. I had to reach in and pry it out of his grasp. It is the only way you’re going to get him out of there. Just be patient.

Good Luck,
Shane

I once had to get rid of 3 sixline wrasses, and I found it very easy to trap them in a homemade trap. Here's how to build it:

Take a 16oz plastic soda bottle, remove the labels, and cut off the top (essentially, cut the bottle in half), then turn the top part around and stick it back in the neck of the bottle the wrong way (with the opening facing back into the body of the bottle). Drill some holes in the bottom and all around, and you've got your trap. Place some food in there, and I bet you'll have that bugger in a couple of minutes. If the opening looks too small for your fish, you can easily widen it by cutting some of the neck of the bottle off.

That is a good idea but you cant control what you catch. If I put that in my tank it would be full of fish and starfish and snails in a matter of minuets. Good idea though if your not worried about what else you catch. I might have to try that one.

I tried a similiar technique with an eel and it worked.but I had to cut a small hole in the bottom of a pop bottle so I could fish a long copper wire. This was used to attach a piece of shrimp and tease the eel into the pop bottle. I t was fun!

I tried to sort of vacuum mine up with a 2" hose (yeah right, good thinking ehh?) I gave up for a while...and then, bought a BIGGER net.

Oh, by the way, I find using one of those clear "specimen boxes" works much much better than a net. The fish can't really see the clear plastic when its underwater, and is a much less stressful way to catch 'em. (than netting)
