This was a surpriise. Everything has been just fine and I was just transfering some liverock into a new tank when I discovered his body. He did refuse dinner last night and seemed to be "gulping" for air. Checked my water and everything is fine....so are my other fish. I was thinking maybe he got stung by my Foxface. :?: :( No sign of injury. Maybe it was the cooked shrimp. I don't know :?: :!: :?: I had him for at least 6 months. :(

This is not intended as a slam but....
In my experience snowflake eels are indestructible and immortal!

My buddy and I set up a predator tank back in 1998. The snowflake eel was the only survivor of a chlorine bleach poisoning (my friend thought he'd clean the algae off of dead coral decorations) in addition to surviving at least two ocassions of escape from the tank; and we calulate it was high and dry carpet jerky for at least 4 hours on one ocassion! Pick him up, rinse him off and back in tank good to go!

I hadn't heard from the friend in a long while and he asked me to come help him do a water change a few weekends ago. Well! the tank looked like crap but there as the same fat happy and very large eel!

I'd be curious to know when and if you determine a cause of death.

Like I said....I was shocked......I wondered if I killed him while moving rock around. This is the last fish I expected to find dead. I don't take your reply as a slam at all. I am just in shock. Like what the F*&%*k!!!

I had a SnowFlake eel in my reef tank had him for 2 yrs since he was a youngen just a little guy, One day i noticed him breathing heavy and stopped eating. Well he died a week later. He was my favorite, I had him eating from my hands, and i could pick him up and it wouldn't bother him at all. I miss the little guy. :(

He was my favorite fish too. Ate out of my hand. About two months ago my dog was barking and I found him on the floor. I picked him up and placed him back in the tank. He even ate that night. Could this be a cyanide thing? Its like he had a time bomb that went off. Digestive problems? Ummmmmmmmmmm? Maybe I should have disected him but hey ......he was my pet.

Maybe it was a dissolved oxegen issue? Was all the circulation in the tank good? Who knows, I had a snowflake also for a few years before selling my FO tank. I also had a green moray before him. I woke up one morning and the return pump was making this terrible noice. The sump was almost full and tank was low. I half asleep turned the ball valve off before the return pump and squish cut the eel in half not realizing he was in there.

The snowflake did well though, some times its just hard to tell!
