What pump would you recommend for a closed loop? I would like to use a mag 7. Is this good enough?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

We need a little more info..

How big is your tank?

How much turn over would you like to create?

how will the pump be plumbed... on the floor. a table near the bulkheaed or ...?

The tank is 75 gallons, the pump would be located approximately 4 feet from the return which would enter the tank just below the water's surface at the top. I was thinking 5x turnover. The tank is drilled at the back for the closed loop and is reef ready as well.

MB- good call on the iwaki,

you might also want to think of the CSL velocity pumps.. or even a quiet one... You should install a ball valve regardless....

I like the quiet ones because they are small.

by no means I am sure my figure is correct...my thinking was one turn over per hour (75) times the hours of the day (24) which gave the total number of gallons turned over in a 24 hour period. miktrav2 said he wanted it to turn over 5 times..so the total number of gallons a day devided by 5 came to 360.

mountainbiker69,

Do you know if the mag pumps can be run inline instead of submersed? I was told by others that it could be but wasn't recommended. I was never told why it wasn't recommended. The product description says it can be used inline. Why are people telling me it shouldn't be? These pumps are a lot less expensive than the Iwakis and I'd like to save some money if at all possible do you have a recommendation?

75x24=1800/5=360
hi.
It is interesting that 24/5 is around 5, so your estimate is of 360 gal is pretty close.

My version is the following:

75 gal * 5 times/hour = 375 gal/hour. Beside this little nick-picking point, all your suggestion is fine.
