Greetings,

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a 2" Maxima for my 75 reef with 250w x 2 DE system. I had placed the Maxima on top (3/4 way up) of my rockwork. The turbos and astraea snails keep knocking it over, so I have placed it on the sand and would like to know if it will be alright there.

Try placing something under it to attach to and then it should be fine in your sand bed. You can put a small rock under the sand or a clam shell. Some people will even use a piece of acrylic. Maxiamas and croceas are rock boring clams so they do best in the rocks.

Hope that helps!

I just picked up another baby maxima last night. It would do best on the rock. Derasa, Gigas, and Squamosa prefer the tank floor. If you can get it to stay put with the help of smaller pieces of rock (if your live rock doesn't have many protrusions or crevices). It should attach within a day. I noticed the new one already has one strong thread this morning.
