Hi,
I'm thinking in buying a breeding pair of clownfish, because I got a deal on some good ones. My question is, what kind of anemone would be best suited for their breeding. I know you really don't need an anemone, but I just find it so cool when clowns host an anemone. These are amphribion percula, or however you spell that. I was thinking in a Eutheamacea quadricolor. I also hear gigantia's would be great. I already have an extra 20 long laying around to act as the small grow out tank. Also, if I weren't to buy the breeding pair, If I bought one 3 inch perc, and one 2 inch perc, would they pair up? Thanks.

You're right that an anemone really isn't needed, but it's a nice natural habitat. E.quadricolor is not a natural host to A.percula, but I have known many Perculas that adopt them in captivity. Carpets (S.gigantea) and Sebae (H.crispa) are both natural hosts, but they aren't as hardy.

A 2" and 3" size difference really isn't that significant and both are likely the same sex. If I was going with non-pairs, I'd get a tiny tiny one (1/2" to 1") and 3+" one. This is still no assurance the big one will not kill the small one. Best idea is to just get a mated pair.

You really need to get a copy of Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfishes". It will answer all of your questions so far and another hundred that you haven't thought of yet. She also discusses how to raise clownfish, if that is your ultimate goal. Good luck!
