I got my new acrylic tank the other day. Unfortunately, as I unwrapped the sucker my excitement and joy sunk to dissappoinment. There were 4 deep, long scratches across the front of my brand new 60x18x24.

Somewhere along the line some dim-witt decided to slash the box open with a box cutter. Of coarse these scratches went un-noticed until I had already brought the thing home in a rented van and lugged it and the stand up three flights of stairs!

The LFS has denied that anyone at their store would do such a thing, "heck, we don't even have knives in the store." They did give me a couple free scratch removal kits but they are not going to be enough to repair the large area that needs to be resurfaced. You can imagine my disgust as I took a piece of 1000 grit sand paper to my brand new tank.

Anyway, the point of my post is to share a source for some good scratch removal products. I ordered more of the special sand paper from Micro-Surface Finishing Products. They make some nice kits and also sell the Micro-mesh by the sheet. Their URL:

https://www.micro-surface.com/default.cfm?page_id=1

Have a nice day! Only ten more hours of sanding and my tank will be as good as new :x .

that is unacceptable... get yor money back- or a new tank

if a box cutter mad the scratches and they are fairly deep, you may never be able to get them all the way out

I hear ya. The tank was somewhat custom made. I don't want to wait for another to be made and shipped, plus the effort of transporting the tank. I would've made them keep it if I had noticed it b4 leaving the store. As it stands now, after hours of wet-sanding, the scatch is gone but I'll really build some muscles working the material back to oringinal clarity. This does suck! But the tank will be good as new when I'm done sanding and buffing.
