Is the EHEIM 1260 o.K.?
Now, I'm preparing a new reef tank of 80gal.
Is the EHEIM 1260 enough as return pump attaching 3/4"sea swirl .
How about IWAKI 30RLXT?
Thanks.

hi.
It really depends on the amount of flow you want.
For a sea horse tank, it is more than sufficient. However, since you are using a SS, it does not sounds like that's the route you are going, and you are really pushing the limit by using the Eheim.

Howdy,

You didn't mention how much piping and head feet of pressure you will have between the eheim and sea swirl. I would say you would want between 500 and 700 gph coming out of the sea swirl, which is well withing its rated limit of 850gph.

Now, looking at the eheim's output of only 635 gph you can see that you won't be getting the kind of current you want unless you have the pump only a foot or two away from the sea swirl. The iwaki would be a much better choice because you could use a ball valve on the return, and really dial in the flow rate they you want for your tank.

If you are dead set on using an eheim pump, go with the 1262. The max output is 900 gph and 665 gph at 4' of head. I still think the iwaki would be a better choice since it has a much higher output for about the same cost. Just remember that you may want to add another peice of equipment that requires a pump, and having the iwaki will allow you to T off of your main flow to feed the device.

Good luck,

Scott.
