I'M READY TO SET UP A 140 GAL 24" DEEP & TRYING TO FIND SOME SHOW ROCK, I UNDERS TAND THAT'S WHAT THEY CALL LARGE PIECES, AS I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH TUMBLING ROCK. I WOULD LIKE FULLY CURED ( FULL OF LIFE OF COURSE). I'M IN AN AREA WITH VERY FEW LFS'S BUT WILLING TO TRAVEL WITHIN CALIF. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I'm sure there's more then a few places that offer such rock, but IIRC Marine Depot (www.marinedepot.com) and Jeff's Exotic Fish can accomdate these requests.

THANKS FOR RESPONSE LEN - MARINE DEPOT WAS THE ONE WHO RECOMMENDED BUYING ROM LFS IF I WANTED CURED ROCK IN SHOW SIZE AS THEY DON'T OFFER IT - TOO COSTLY FOR SO LITTLE DEMAND - WHICH KINDA SURPRISED ME. THEY WILL FURNISH UNCURED - BUT SEEMED SURPRISED I WOULD BE INTERESTED SIGHT UNSEEN, CONSIDERING THE COST - GOOD POINT REALLY - SO THAT'S WHY I WOULD LIKE TO FIND STORES IN CALIF THAT OFFER SHOW ROCK

I forget, how far is salinas from the bay area? I could point you towards a couple of stores that were pretty decent when I lived there a few years ago.

your other option is of course to buy some aquarium epoxy, conveniently colored pink or purple some times, and epoxy together several medium sized pieces. this way you can fit them together to make caves, and you can make sure that your newly created show pieces will fit together in the tank well and that they are stable.

this way you could take 3 20 lb rocks that may be easier to find or cheaper and put together a 60 pound monster rock, which would likely have run you a little more if bought in one piece as shipping bigger rocks gets more expensive.

my lfs had a 120 lb. rock in their tank for sale, i fear the guy who put down $5.99 a lb for it...

You might want to try Aquarium Arts in Bakersfield. They deliver but the guy doesn't mind if you come down and pick out your own pieces (which I did a few months back). I think he charges $4.99 a lb and its pretty decent rock (fully cured of course). HTH.
