I am considering a Tunze pump to move water from my Sump to my main tank and a Tunze Skimmer for my 90 gal custom made set up (in the
works). Any comments, suggestions, advice?

Any suggestions on where to buy Tunze products online at the best prices?

Thanks.

I've heard good things about the Tunze skimmer line but I've never seen any in the states here at any rate. Also, I wasn't aware that Tunze made return pumps. I know they make powerheads, etc...

Both Marine Depot and Premium Aquatics carry tunze products. Also there is a vendor forum on RC that the tunze rep is very attentive to if you need specifics on the different pumps. Did not know they made return pumps either but I can reccomend Eheim return pumps thought they may not work on a really big tank they are awesome.

Looking into Tunze products for my new 24" tall x 20" deep x 47" long tank.

I read info at http://www.tunze.com/usa/index.html?lang=en-gb
and now I need to know if I am on the right track at all...

1). Tunze Tuchelle Electronic 7200/2 Pump.

Q - Is this the type of pump to use to return water from sump to main tank?

Q - I see it has what I think is almost a 1" outlet/inlet pipe. Does that mean that my plumbing from tank to sump should be 1" also?

Q - What is the difference between a pump and a powerhead? Is it that one is submerged and one is not?

Q - Will this work on my 220 power?

2). Tunze Comline 3115/2 Skimmer

Q - Pump is included as part of the unit - right?

Q - Adequate for tank size?

Q - Will it work on 220 power?

THANKS to anyone willing to look into this for me.

Is this the 7200/2 pump you're looking at?

7200_2.jpg

Turbelle ® 7200/2
Output: 500 - 2400 l/h; 132 - 633 gal/h
Pumping head H.max: 0,6 - 1,3 m; 24 - 51"
Speed control: Yes
Pump wattage: 5 - 13 W
Voltage / Frequency: 230 V / 50 Hz (115 V / 60 Hz)
Cable length: 5 m; 120"
Dimensions: ø 98 x 104 mm; ø 3.9 x 3.5"
Outlet diam.: ø 25 / 21 mm; ø 0.98 / 0.83"
Inlet diam.: ø 25 / 21 mm; ø 0.98 / 0.83"

If this is the case, it's a powerhead and hangs in your tank like this:

It's not a return pump. You'd have to find an alternative if you're looking for a return pump. I know that you're not in the US, but maybe some of the pumps on this page might be available in Dubai: http://www.reefs.org/library/pumps/

Your plumbing from your tank to your sump can be any diameter you want as long as it keeps up with the flow from your return pump. On that pump page I just posted, there's an excellent article by Sanjay Joshi and Nathan Paden on plumbing your tank. I highly recommend it to anyone that's working on plumbing their system. You may want to take a look at it.

Some powerheads can be used in a return pump situation like the Supreme MagDrive pumps. Just looking at the maximum head data above I'm going to probably say you should look at an alternative return pump as the maximum height the 7200/2 will pump to is 51". Many of the pumps on that page I posted can also be run on 230 VAC.

The skimmer:

3115_2.jpg

Dimensions: l.125 x w.113 x h. 418 mm
l.4.9 x w.4.4 x h.16.4 in.
Built-in depth: abt. 260 to 300 mm
230 V / 50 Hz (115 V / 60 Hz) 11 W
Air output: 300 l/h
Foaming cup contents 1.0 litres
For aquarium sizes
of 150 to 400 litres of salt water

To be honest I'm not sure if it does or not. Probably the best thing to do is to call a Tunze dealer up and see if that's the case. I don't see any place in the documentation that says it has a pump...

The tank you're building is about 100 gallons in volume (roughly 380 liters). That skimmer might be too small as it's pretty close to the upper limit of the skimmer (400 liter tank volume). I'd probably go with the next size larger skimmer -- the 3130/2.

All of the documentation states that they should work with both 115 VAC and 230 VAC so it should work with your electrical voltage. A quick email/phone call to Tunze would probably verify this.
