Hi,

I'm setting up a new tank, and was wondering what you guys think the difference between Custom Sea Life's 2x65w retro kits (~$150), vs no-name kits (~$65)

vs.

CSL makes claims of vastly greater (280%!) light output, and there is something to be said for buying brand name, but I'm not sure twice the price is really worth it. I know the CSL's have independent lamp control, but thats not a big issue for me since I'm actually going to be running 4 bulbs total, which will give me independent control of the actinics in either configuration.

Any thoughts on this?

I, personally, would spend the extra money and go with the CSL's. I've had my CSL PC's for 1-1/2 years with no problems whatsoever. That said, where did you find a 4x65 watt retro for $150?

Oh, sorry, that was a typo, I should have said 2x, not 4x.

The best price I've found so far on 2x65w CSL's is $142 at marinedepot.com. I did a fair bit of research, and they do seem to have the overall lowest prices around, for dry goods.
