My Reef Creation Nielsen 8' inch seal leaks

Hi: those whore are using Reef Creations large diameter (8 inch diameter tube and 30 inch tall tube) I am having serious difficulty each time I open the reactor to recharge it. The O ring seal does not fit snug in the groove and I usually spend half a day opening & closing the reator till I luck out & achieve a good seal. After that everything works well. Any suggestions to get a good seal all the timeare appreciated. I do use vaseline to get a good seal but the O ring works itself out of the groove... Seems that a deeper groove & thicker O ring are needed BUT I really do not know...

Well, I had leaking problems from the lid in my calcium reactor, although it was not a large diameter setup like yours. Andy sent me the thicker lid and that seems to have fixed it.

Try to see if you can get a bigger O-ring. I can tell you that it is not easy to find the perfect one, but at least you will be doing something more productive than try to get luckout everytime when you refill the reactor.

Ain't you are glad that you don't have to refill it every month?

David I assume Home Depot would have an 8 inch plus Diam O ring. Where do you suggest I get one from, if not Home Depot.
Dan; maybe I will email Andy and see what he says. Mine is a Nielsen reactor. I also bought from him a dual chamber calcium reactor that leaked a bit at the begining. I have not yet replaced the media and I hope I won't have similar seal problems.

FWIW Andy's skimmer is still rocking on my 180 three years after I bought it. I just haven't convinced the wife that I "Need" a nielsen from him yet.

i just ordered a neilson to go with my myreef calcium reactor. from what ive been hearing from a few other large tank owners its the only way to go. ive had the opportunity to check out andy's shop and i dont have any willpower when i'm exposed to new gadgets. just part of this chronic progressive disease. every time i go in the place Andy is like a mad scientist testing out some new device.

Ernie & Wasabi a nielsen is great and works well for me in combo with calcium reactor.
